The Wittiest Vicar of Halifax who saved the Parish church: Life and Humour of Rev. Francis Pigou 1832- 1916
By David Glover, President.
The story of a high-flying vicar with a wonderful sense of humour. Born in Germany, raised in the UK, he also served for a while in Paris, where he met British Royalty. His great legacy to Halifax was to organise the superb restoration of its Parish Church in 1878/9, which saved a mediaeval structure from destruction. But he did not succeed in making it a Cathedral – that’s another tale.
Meetings are held in the Halifax Room, Calderdale Industrial Museum, Square Road, Halifax HX1 1Q
Admission
Non-member attendees are welcome, they are asked to contribute a donation of £3.00 per lecture.
