For some days in August 1842, People Power brought the mills of Halifax to a total standstill – this was ‘The Great Strike.’ An inspiring story of a few hot summer days when the world was topsy-turvy and embattled mill owners shivered in their shoes. How and why did this extraordinary situation arise? What did Plug-drawing involve, and what was the input of local Chartists? Soldiers were attacked at Salterhebble, innocent citizens were assaulted by troopers, some being killed. David attempts to explain the confusion…
